It’s the weekend in inner-city Karlsruhe. The warm evening air is filled with the appetizing smell of BBQ and the sound of relaxed music. The Schleuse (Dreiraum community living house) has opened its doors and more and more people are being drawn into the courtyard. Couches invite people to stay awhile and on the open grills guests can cook what they’ve brought themselves. The headlining band from Pete Dueckmann shares about their faith naturally and guests are having good conversations at the tables.
FORM OR CONTENT?
As you can see we experiment with different things to come into contact with those around us but primarily to help people get closer to God. If people reject the Message because of its content then we can’t and shouldn’t do anything about it. But if people reject the Message because of its form (e.g they don’t understand it or the words are too “pious”) then it is definitely our problem.
IN TOUCH WITH OTHERS
When Jesus spoke to rural people he used examples from farming (Mt. 13) or to Peter, who was a fisherman by trade he said he would become a “fisher of men”. In the same way we at Dreiraum want to continually find new ways of communication that convey the Good News in an understandable and comprehensible form. One of the primary goals we hope to achieve is to be in touch with people through culturally relevant activities.
